Tag: Southern & South Eastern Mallorca

Here you will find tips for the south and southwest of Mallorca. Around Palma you will find some great beaches, but also urban life! This is also the sunny side of the island: the weather is often milder here in winter than in the rest of the island.

Hotel Review: Cook’s Club Calvià Beach in Mallorca

When it comes to testing new hotels on Mallorca, I’m only too happy to take part. Cook’s Club Calvià Beach* in the southwest of the island recently opened and I spent a long weekend there!

    Attention: Rebranding!
Since May 2026, the two Cook’s Club hotels in Mallorca have been called Caramelo Calvià Beach and Caramelo Palma Beach

    Cook’s Club: The Brand

The Cook’s Club hotel brand is pursuing a new, innovative concept for vacation hotels: here, a well-deserved break in the sun is celebrated in a casual yet stylish way, without compromising on a certain standard. All Cook’s Club hotels are designed in aesthetic minimalism and are pretty much the complete opposite of the usual accomodations at popular destinations.

Cook’s Club Calvià Beach in Torrenova

One of the latest new locations in the Cook’s Club portfolio is Cook’s Club Calvià Beach* in Torrenova, located on a hill right between Playa de Magaluf and Playa Son Matias in Palmanova.

Cook's Club Calvià Beach in Mallorca
Pool at Cook's Club Calvià Beach in Mallorca

Located on a hill, the Cook’s Club Calvià Beach provides a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding bays, especially from the higher floors. From my room on the seventh floor, I was able to enjoy beautiful sunrises over the bay of Palmanova every morning.

Rooms at Cook’s Club Calvià Beach

Not your average vacation hotel is what they want to be, Cook’s Club themselves say – and judging by the rooms, they’ve stuck to their guns. The original building of Cook’s Club Calvià Beach, which just last year housed one of these aforementioned vacation hotels, has been transformed so that not much of the vibe of an interchangeable tourist hotel remains.

The rooms are spacious, have a large balcony and everything you need for a summer vacation is there. I was particularly pleased with the clean lines and cool tile floor; too many bells and whistles in a hotel room just isn’t my thing. And the view of the sea from your own balcony is ultimately the icing on the cake.

    Adults Only: Only for adults

I’m always ambivalent when I hear the term “Adults Only” in reference to hotels because it sounds so exclusionary. However, it also helps to find the right hotel for your vacation!

Cook's Club Calvià Beach in Mallorca

Cook’s Club Calvià Beach, for example, is completely geared to the needs of a younger crowd traveling without children: Pool afternoons are often accompanied by chill-out house music, the cocktail bar offers delicious daiquiris as you like, and breakfast starts rather late at 8am only. Latecomers are served a hangover breakfast until midday – and by then it’s clear that this corner of Mallorca is less suitable for families with children.

Chilling & Parties: The new Magaluf

Magaluf is right next door and enjoys a similar reputation among Brits as Playa de Palma does among Germans. A lot has changed here in recent years: The days of excessive partying are over. People still party, but in a much more civilized and pleasant way.

    Playa de Magaluf in Mallorca

The pedestrian zone in Magaluf has also been extensively renovated, so you’ll find the most important stores here – there’s even a well-stocked Mango if you’ve forgotten an item or two at home and don’t want to resort to the typical tourist boutiques. During the day, it’s quiet and you can chill out on the beach to your heart’s content or treat yourself to an ice cream at one of Mallorca’s best ice cream parlors, Rivareno.

Anyway, Magaluf is my tip for you if you want to spend a party vacation on Mallorca, but don’t really feel like the beating atmosphere around Ballermann. (Or simply do not want to meet acquaintances from Germany 😉 ) Because I find that it is always a lot of fun to party with Brits, I know that from several stays in the UK. Despite the high alcohol levels, the atmosphere is often very friendly and cheerful. Magaluf is also home to BCM, Mallorca’s biggest club with house and electronic music, for which even locals travel all the way from Palma to the southwest.

Palmanova: Even more beach clubs & beach restaurants

On the other side of Cook’s Club Calvià Beach is Son Matias beach, which belongs to Palmanova. It’s a little more dignified and family-friendly here, and that’s what makes the Cook’s Club location so special: you have the choice between two very different vacation resorts with correspondingly different vibes.

    Oceans Calvia Beach in Mallorca

However, what is very successful on both beaches are the many beach clubs and beach restaurants, which also provide entertainment during the day if simply lying around on the beach is too boring for you.

For a warm summer evening with very good food, I can recommend Siso Beach; here you get Mediterranean-Asian fusion cuisine served in an upscale ambience with a view of the bay of Palmanova.

Cantina & Cocktails at Cook’s Club Calvià Beach

But you’ll also be well taken care of when it comes to food right here at Cook’s Club. Like all the other clubs, this one follows the“Cantina” concept, which reminded me a bit of Vapiano. Breakfast is plentiful and served buffet-style; fried eggs, waffles, and pancakes are made fresh at the respective stations.

Meals for the lunch and dinner menu are also prepared at the open kitchen counter. The Cook’s Club offers a good selection for every taste, from crisp salads and varied poke bowls to pasta and fresh pizzas. Orders are placed casually at the counter, and payment is made with the credit on the in-house chip, which also serves as a room card.

Hand holding a Cook's Club Hotel key card with a white wristband

The prices are remarkably reasonable, and the cantina is open until 10 p.m., so you can also snack on a salad by the pool in the afternoon – I thought that was brilliant!

Burgers with bacon arranged on a tiered stand, pizza, and spice mills in the restaurant

In general, very much attention is paid to quality: Again and again I ended up at the cocktail bar because the drinks there were really good! I’m particularly picky when it comes to cocktails, because although I love cocktails, I don’t like wild mixtures of cheap booze and thin juices.

Four garnished cocktails with straws on a bar counter
Two orange-colored cocktails garnished with mint on the bar counter

    Music & Nightlife

The musical entertainment in the club was also pleasant: in the afternoon there were mostly chill-out tracks being played by the pool, in the evening there was a DJ or even a saxophonist (and hey, saxophone music plus sunset plus palm trees plus sea view – what more could you want?). As the club has only just opened and is not yet fully established, there is still a lot to do.

Similar to its sister hotel Cook’s Club Palma Beach* in Playa de Palma, the aim is to attract guests from outside the city with chill-out parties by the pool and after-work events. I then took a look at Cook’s Club Palma Beach – and it really is a chilled out event location that is also popular with locals.

What else to do around Calvià

    From Torrenova to Palma

Located in the southwest of Mallorca, Cook’s Club Calvià Beach is a very good starting point for a wide variety of excursions: you can be in the center of Palma in just 20-25 minutes by car or rental car and can explore the beautiful old town.

Palma view from Es Baluard museum

If you don’t have a rental car or don’t want to search for a parking space, you can also take a public bus within walking distance, which will take you to the center of Palma in 40 minutes. The bus stops at Plaza España, from where you can also hop on the famous Tren de Sóller or take the train to the Jardines de Alfabia or the markets of Santa Maria or Sineu.

Continue to the southeast of Mallorca

You can also explore the south-east of the island from Torrenova: In a hire car, you can quickly reach charming places such as Sant Elm or the exclusive marina of Puerto Portals.

    How to get there

Cook’s Club Calvià Beach is just a 30-minute drive from Palma Airport. You can take a cab there directly, or try Uber. Uber is in fact starting to operate gradually on the island! If you are taking a rental car directly from the airport, it is best to ask the hotel in advance whether parking spaces are available, as capacity is limited.

Puerto Portals: The beautiful marina in the southwest of Mallorca

If you’ve always wondered what luxury living on the Mediterranean coast is like, I recommend the Puerto Portals marina on Mallorca. Here you can immerse yourself in a glamorous world in an instant and feel like you’re in a glossy lifestyle magazine: Puerto Portals is one of the most exclusive places in Mallorca!

    The vibe of Puerto Portals

Imagine expensive, sophisticated yachts glistening like pearls in the sun, set against a breathtaking backdrop of turquoise waters and azure skies – that’s Puerto Portals. Order a cool drink in one of the exclusive bars at the marina and enjoy the fascinating view of the elegant harbor.

Boats in the marina of Puerto Portals

Where is Puerto Portals and how to get there?

Puerto Portals is located on the southwest coast of Mallorca and is part of the town of Portals Nous in the municipality of Calvià. The luxurious marina is just 10 kilometers from downtown Palma. From the Palma de Mallorca Airport, you can reach Puerto Portals by car in about 20 minutes. The best place to park is one of the paid parking lots around the harbor (quite expensive, but less stressful). If you are not traveling by rental car, you can also easily reach Puerto Portals by public transport or cab.

    Gastronomy in Puerto Portals

Puerto Portals is known for its high-quality gastronomy – the prices are in keeping with the ambience. However, please don’t let that stop you! You can eat well while enjoying the view of the yachts glittering in the sunlight at the popular restaurants Flanigan, Wellies or Ritzi.

Restaurant with terrace in Puerto Portals

I especially like the cappuccino. I usually avoid coffee shop chains, but the Cappuccino locations—which can be found in several places in Palma and throughout the rest of the island—are all so unique and beautifully designed that it’s always worth stopping by for a coffee or a drink! The branch in Puerto Portals is centrally located in the middle of the promenade, and from here you have a great view of everything going on.

    MY RECOMMENDATION FOR PORTALS NOUS

Do you like the sun-drenched south-west of Mallorca?

    Events in Puerto Portals

It’s best to keep an eye out for events taking place in Puerto Portals: Then a visit is particularly worthwhile. One of the highlights of the year is the“Puerto Portals Sailing Week“, a regatta where sailors from all over the world gather in Puerto Portals. But the annual Christmas market, which transforms the marina into a magical winter wonderland, is also a must-see.

The Sunset Market in Puerto Portals Mallorca
The Sunset Market in Puerto Portals

I can particularly recommend the Sunset Market, which takes place in the summer months. Then the harbor promenade is transformed into an elegant hippie market with many stalls of small handmade labels, food trucks with delicious snacks and chilling live music.

    Beaches near Portals Nous

Just a short walk from the marina you will find the Platja de Portals Nous, an idyllic beach with fine, golden sand and calm, crystal-clear water. The small bay is somewhat hidden at the end of the harbor promenade and is really very pretty. You will also find a few small beach bars here for a drink or a snack. Of particular note is Tabgha, a newly opened chiringuito with a social approach.

On the other side is the Platja de Punta Portals, which in my opinion is a little less beautiful.

    Molinar: The hotspot in Palma!

People often ask me where to go in Palma. So here you can find my tips for Molinar, probably the most beautiful district in Palma!

Sea, beach and a fresh breeze: Even Mallorcans themselves rave about Palma’s suburb Molinar.

Molinar in Palma: From fishing village to Mallorca’s hotspot

Just a few decades ago, Molinar was a only an old fishing village. But after the beach promenade was extended here from downtown Palma in the late nineties, the forgotten suburb became the city’s new hotspot. Although land prices rose ad infinitum, Molinar nevertheless retained the charm of a village and to this day has little to no tourist appeal. A great secret location for all those who don’t want to stay in one of the many hotels and who like to mingle with the locals!

    Where is Molinar located?

Molinar is a district of Palma and extends from the marina Portixol along the sea out of town to the next district Ciudad Jardin. Molinar is especially popular for its long beach promenade, which unlike many other sections in Palma, is not very touristy. By bike you can explore Molinar particularly well: From here you can ride both in direction to the big port of Palma and in the other direction to Playa de Palma. This section is also popular among inline skaters.

    The Portixol marina in Palma

    Molinar or Portixol?

Due to its proximity to the Portixol marina, this corner of Palma is often called Portixol. Strictly speaking, however, Portixol is only the area around the marina. Molinar is the suburb of Palma that starts right there. However, many people also name the beachfront in Molinar Portixol – so don’t panic if you ask someone for directions, both names are often used for what’s actually Molinar.

Molinar is my tip for you on Mallorca if you only have a few days but still want to relax by the sea!

    The best beaches in Molinar

Classic beaches with the typical touristy infrastructure with umbrellas, lifeguards and postcard stores are not to be found in Molinar. But that is exactly what makes the beaches in Molinar so popular. Many locals swim here, the atmosphere is relaxed and people know each other.

Playa de El Molinar in Palma, Mallorca
    Playa de El Molinar

The only beach equipped with showers is Playa de El Molinar, right at the beginning of the boardwalk. Down to Ciudad Jardin, however, there is no official beach. You can just enter the beach here in the wild, so to speak, a real rarity in and around Palma! Especially popular are the spots around the Rosa del Vents, the monolith with the seagull on top right on the promenade. Here, the water is shallow and you can walk forever into the ocean. The sea is crystal clear in good weather.

    The beach promenade in Molinar

On weekends, the promenade is very busy, but during the week you’ll find great, quiet swimming spots. There are also two small bays, especially suitable for children; the water is clear and shallow. There is little to no swell due to the enclosed bay.

At the end of the promenade you are already in Ciudad Jardin. It’s a bit more lively there with some bars and a chiringuito (that’s how the beach bars directly by the beach are called). Here there are showers, public toilets and access for visitors with reduced mobility. This beach is also guarded by lifeguards during the day in summer.

Where to eat and drink in Molinar

The Paseo of Molinar has also become the favorite gastronomic destination of Palmesans, where people like to stroll along the promenade in the evening or do sports. Outside the high season and on weekdays it is relatively quiet, but even in summer on weekends it does not get too crowded. To some extent, places come and go here, but there are some really good tips that are absolutely no tourist traps.

These are my restaurant favorites in Molinar!

Mala Madre A bit off the boardwalk and more with a street view than an ocean view, the menu is a bit of a wild mix, Tex-Mex, Asia, a little bit of everything but still good. Great interior with jungle vibes.

Izizi Nunnak Great cocktails, good selection, both for small lunch or large dinner. Seats on the terrace with ocean view are especially popular on weekends, but inside the huge bar and the cozy patio are also eye-catchers. Cocktails are amazing.

Es Vaixell Right next door, also recommended for drinks and snacks. Popular among locals!

Playa de El Molinar in Palma, Mallorca
Around the Playa de El Molinar are many great restaurants

Cocco My recommendation for drinks at sunset! From the upper floor you have an even better view of the bay and the setting sun.

A Tarantella A little less fancy, but that shouldn’t stop you. I am very picky about Italian restaurants outside of Italy in particular; but Tarantella is one of the few restaurants where I eat lasagna without hesitation. I especially love the lasagna! Everything else, pizza, pasta, also delicious, fresh and good. Service is authentic and attentive. Very popular, best to reserve on weekends.
A Tarantella has moved and is now a bit more hidden at Carrer de la ille de Corfù 8 in Ciudad Jardin. But cuisine is always great, the way to the neighboring Ciudad Jardin is worth it!

Update March 2023: Now you’ll find Petit Nola, an offshoot of Nola in Santa Catalina. Good address for brunch, drinks and snacks!

Vent Portixol I have yet to find out if this is a good place to eat; in any case, it’s good for a drink and snacks in the afternoon or evening. Decorated in beach bar style; very comfortable to sit and people-watch here.

Sa Roqueta A bit fancier, but still with the charm of the near harbour and absolutely recommended for fans of fresh fish and seafood. Secluded on the mini peninsula of the Hotel Portixol. Even the former King Juan Carlos of Spain with family is said to have dined here on their annual Mallorca vacation!

Alta Marea Very good tip for a romantic dinner! Alta Marea is located in a small square, somewhat hidden from the promenade on Passeig del Born del Molinar. Sit outside & enjoy good Italian cuisine on a warm summer evening!

Can Tito is right next door at the same square, with a nice terrace as well. Established and traditional, famous for fish and seafood and a good address if you are looking for really typical cuisine!

    Insider tips in Molinar

On the Carrer Llucmajor, it’s less fancy than on the promenade, but you’re really only among locals here. Often the places here are not particularly prepared for tourists, so strangers usually shy away from going inside. But I can only recommend it! It’s much cheaper than on the promenade and you can also dive right into village life. Menus are often not available and English isn’t very common here, but here’s a glimpse of the authentic Mallorca!

    Village life in Molinar

El Rincón de Laura My recommendation for a good breakfast! The entrance on the main street is inconspicuous and looks more like a garage, but behind it hides a cute place with charm! Mingle among the locals! Start the day with a Café con leche and delicious, freshly made tostadas (one portion is enough for two). Just ask for the current Pa amb Oli (bread with oil). The toppings change constantly, with everything from basics like jamón, queso and tortilla to calamares and anchoas.

Breakfast at Rincón de Laura in Molinar, Palma de Mallorca

El Camionero Traditional restaurant with a changing daily menu. Here you can get typical dishes and home cooking for lunch. Often well attended, the village meets here for lunch. There is loud laughter, chatting, and even a glass of wine at lunchtime – an experience!

Forn Can Na Teresa bakery, which with the white and blue interior is more reminiscent of a fish store. Lively meeting place, also good for having coffee with a piece of cake!

Even though Molinar is actually just a small village, there are still a few spots you can check out.

The small harbor in the center of Molinar is still being restored, but from the looks of it already, this place is becoming the new hotspot in Molinar. New is the small viewpoint at the top of the port, from which you can see all the way to the cathedral and the port of Palma.

By the way, all this is only thanks to the protests of Molinar’s population: Originally, the local government wanted to sell the run-down area to a foreign investor. Thanks to a large-scale citizens’ movement and years of protests, however, this piece of village history now remains public – and makes Molinar even more beautiful.

    Rosa del Vents

The monolith with the seagull on top is the landmark of Molinar. By the way, this (as well as the rest of the promenade) is a popular spot for fashion shoots. It is not uncommon to see big photo and video productions here – the light with the sea in the background is simply magnificent.

    Where to stay in Molinar

Due to its perfect location, Molinar is also very suitable for staying overnight and as a home base for your stay in Mallorca! Especially if you want to spend a few days in Palma only and want to avoid to stay in the busy city centre, Molinar will be a perfect choice!

Here you will find beach and tranquility, but still have a perfect bus connection to downtown Palma and the airport. If you’re feeling like it, you’ll also be at the infamous Playa de Palma or Arenal in no time. Cab rides to the airport or to the city are also affordable. The only problem: accommodation in Molinar is scarce.

The iconic Hotel Portixol, located right on the marina, comes highly recommended. A bit more affordable but very nice is the Hotel Portofino in Ciudad Jardín at the other end of Molinar; plus, the beach is practically right outside the hotel’s door. Almost next door, tucked away in a townhouse-style property, is the Hotel Ciutat Jardi, which offers a nostalgic atmosphere, a pool, and a good restaurant.

Christmas Market at the Pueblo Español in Palma

Celebrating Christmas in Mallorca is for many island lovers a pretty good alternative to dull and cold holidays at home. But what if you are suddenly overcome by a longing for the Christmas spirit on Mallorca? Then you should treat yourself to a visit to the Christmas market in the Pueblo Español in the middle of Palma de Mallorca, mulled wine included.

    Christmas market in Mallorca

Huge markets with mulled wine stands on every corner are more at home in Germany than in Mallorca. In the Pueblo Español in Palma, however, a really idyllic Christmas market takes place every year during the Christmas season, which can already keep up well. Even with live music and romantic lighting! From bratwursts to Thai curries to Argentinian empanadas, there’s a small but diverse culinary offering. Even a cup of mulled wine is included in the price of admission. (It’s rather mediocre by its quality, but still a nice gesture).

Celebrating Christmas in Spain: Holidays & customs

In contrast to Germany, children get their presents on the day of the Three Kings on January 6 in Spain. So if you don’t get into festive mode until Christmas Eve, you can enjoy Mallorca a little longer, because the Christmas season doesn’t end so abruptly here with the last day of Christmas. However, there is only one Christmas Day, December 25.

In general, Christmas is not also celebrated as extremely contemplative as in Germany, but rather seen as a somewhat more cheerful family celebration. The Christmas market in the Pueblo Español therefore looks more like a fair with quite a few fairy lights – and yet: Somehow the atmosphere really comes alive in the Plaza Mayor with Christmas live music.

In typical Spanish fashion, there is also a special offer for children: a bouncy castle is hidden in one of the small patios and in the “Casita del Papá Noel” the little ones can have their picture taken with Santa Claus.

When is the Pueblo Español Christmas Market?

The Pueblo Español Christmas Market is usually held on weekends and around the holidays. December 6 and 8 are also public holidays in Spain. (Constitution Day and the Conception of the Virgin Mary).
You can even celebrate the New Year here on New Year’s Eve.

    Is it worth it?

To be honest, some stands are more reminiscent of funfair booths or consumer fairs (Tupperware at a Christmas market certainly takes some getting used to for German tastes). The market itself is relatively small. On the other hand, the central Plaza Mayor, which is decorated with lights all around, has an absolute Christmas atmosphere. At the latest, when the artificial snow trickles over the square in the form of soap foam! I thought it was nice and would recommend the market to anyone who wants some festive vibes. One more tip: It’s best to leave the high heels at home, the Pueblo Español is located on a slope and most of it has pretty rustic cobblestones!

Pueblo Español in Palma de Mallorca

The market is located in part of the Pueblo Español, a kind of open-air museum with replicas of famous Spanish landmarks. The site is set up like a small village: narrow streets lead through the most diverse regions of Spain in just a few minutes’ walk. During the day and in season, the Pueblo Español is also a popular destination for cruise ship tourists; but Palma’s only hop-on hop-off bus also stops right outside. (Which is convenient, because the Pueblo Español is just outside the city center in the Son Españolet neighborhood).

Tip for the summer season: With the ⮕Hop-On Hop-Off Bus* you can also continue from here to Castell Bellver. From there you have a fantastic view over Palma!
(Note: Currently the Pueblo Español stop is out of service due to the pandemic, but I suspect it will certainly be reactivated for the next season).

Sant Elm: insider tip for Mallorca’s southwest (+map)

“Do you know a quiet place on Mallorca to relax, with a bit of beach, good food and just a nice place to stop?” I’m often asked this or similar questions about tips for Mallorca – and quite often my counter-question is: Have you ever been to Sant Elm? In this article, I’ll tell you why the small town on the westernmost tip of Mallorca is worth a visit.

Tip: Sant Elm is a really charming vacation resort, but accommodation is rare! If you would like to spend several days here:

The winding country road meanders ever more tightly down through dense pine forests. Will anything come of this at all? I drive from Palma in the direction of Andratx, and this part of Mallorca is somehow strange anyway.

Here, in this particularly sunny corner of Mallorca, blessed with the most beautiful bays, you will find one estate agent’s dream after another: Light-flooded villas line the slopes around Port d’Andratx and in hardly any other region of the island is the density of celebrities higher. And so you would hardly suspect that this special gem is still to be found behind Andratx: Sant Elm is like a small, hidden oasis!

Peace & vacation flair in Sant Elm

Sant Elm is a curious little village. A bit abandoned by locals, it is mainly inhabited by tourists and vacation home owners. A proper infrastructure like in other places with fully equipped supermarkets, stores for daily needs, schools or kindergartens is virtually non-existent here. What remains is a quiet, manageable place with everything you need for a 1-2 week stay and a relaxed atmosphere that immediately puts you in the vacation mood.

The water in the bay is clear and so turquoise blue on sunny days that it almost hurts your eyes! A dream for all beach fans!

    Hike through La Trapa

The La Trapa nature reserve borders Sant Elm, with a great hiking trail along the coast. From the monastery ruins of the same name, La Trapa, you also have a breathtaking view of the offshore island of Sa Dragonera.

A detour to the Torre de Cala en Basset is also worthwhile. (Hiking trails and access roads are currently being repaired, it is better to check the current situation on site to see if everything is accessible. – As of May 2021)

    Sa Dragonera

Like Cabrera, Sa Dragonera is an offshore island that has been declared a nature reserve. You can explore the island yourself along designated hiking trails. The visitor center provides information about the island’s special flora and fauna. (For example, there are lots of lizards here, hence the name – or a large population of falcons).

There are regular boat trips there from Sant Elm and Andratx. There is no catering on site and garbage must also be taken away.

Eating & drinking in Sant Elm

The gastronomic offer in Sant Elm is manageable, but quite positive. If I were to spend several days here, I would probably be an instant breakfast regular at Forn Sa Palomera and would try my way through the display of freshly baked crossaints and pastries every morning. Absolute recommendation! (And not just for breakfast, of course!)

Spend the night in Sant Elm

Due to the size of the village, the choice of accommodation is limited. Even if, like me, you don’t normally go for plain vacation hotels – maybe you’ll make an exception here.

The Universal Hotel Aquamarin* and its sister hotel Don Camilo* may not necessarily win the next design award for the most stylish interior, but the only two larger hotels on the square offer solid service and probably the best panoramic views in Sant Elm. And you can enjoy the biggest advantage of Sant Elmo here: endless peace and quiet.

    Day trip to Sant Elm

Is spending your entire vacation in Sant Elm too quiet for you? No problem, I always recommend Sant Elm as a nice day trip, especially if you want to see a bit of something but don’t really fancy the crowds.

    Rental car

The best way to reach Sant Elm is by rental car. The journey from Palma takes around 35-40 minutes.

    Public transport in Paris

Getting to Sant Elm by public transport is somewhat more difficult due to its remote location. Line 121 connects Sant Elm with the nearby towns of Port d’Andratx and Andratx, from there there is a bus connection to the Estació Intermodal at Plaça Espanya in Palma with line 101. The journey takes an hour and a half in total.

    From Sant Elm onwards

The GR221 long-distance hiking trail starts in Sant Elm and leads through the entire Serra Tramuntana. The perfect starting point for a longer hike!

The GR 221 hiking route begins in Sant Elm

If you are traveling by rental car and don’t want to do much hiking, you can also incorporate Sant Elm into a short road trip and explore Port d’Andratx on the same day, for example. A short drive along the southwest coast with the towns of Paguera, Santa Ponsa or El Toro with the stylish new marina Port Adriano is also a good idea.

If you want a contrasting program after so much peace and quiet, you can also end the day nearby in Magaluf, the epicentre of party-loving Brits – anything is possible on Mallorca!

The Banys Àrabs in Palma de Mallorca

There are not many cities that always inspire me anew. My “second home” Palma for example. For me, this city has everything: not too small, not too big, the ocean always a few blocks away and a beautiful old town. No wonder tourists flood the city here in the summer. Most of the time, La Seu Cathedral is the first port of call because it stands out so prominently on the promenade.

Most people then immediately head to the city via the Passeig del Born, but those who are already here should also take the opportunity to explore a little of the picturesque and, above all, often lonely alleys behind the cathedral. In addition to authentic Palma old town flair off the beaten track, you’ll find the Banys Àrabs (Arab Baths) here – with an entrance that blends so well with the surrounding houses that you could easily miss the open door.

Insider tip for Palma: The Banys Àrabs / Arab Baths

Especially in the summer, the Arab Baths are a great place to stop by when you’re exploring Palma’s Old Town. Popular spots like the cathedral or the Plaza Mayor often get so crowded that you find yourself longing for a little peace and quiet.

There, the Arabian Baths are a true oasis, as they are relatively unknown to tourists. It’s hard to believe that this beautiful, green courtyard hideaway is located just a few hundred meters from the bustling tourist flow in the old town! A real insider tip and perfect for those who like to be away from the crowds.
